The England attacker is only a substitute for the game against Schalke because of a minor injury
This was not part of the plan. After two months without games and huge anticipation about the Bundesliga’s return, Chelsea fans hoping to grab a glimpse of their big transfer hope, Jadon Sancho, have been left deeply disappointed.
The England attacker has only been named on the Borussia Dortmund bench for their derby against Schalke at the Westfalenstadion because of a minor calf problem.
With a new temporary rule allowing five substitutions we are likely to see Sancho off the bench at some point but the team news has still caused plenty of disappointment for supporters.
Gio Reyna starts in Sancho place, the 17-year-old American making a first Bundesliga start.
Elsewhere, Timo Werner starts up front for RB Leipzig against Freiburg, although Ethan Ampadu misses out because of an ongoing back injury that has troubled the on-loan Wales international since February.
Werner is being tracked by Liverpool as well as Chelsea, while Manchester United retain an interest in Sancho – although Dortmund’s asking price of £120million may be considered off-putting in a transfer window that will be heavily affected by the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

Man Utd should stay away from Sancho, he’s very injury prone. Just let Chelsea get him.

Giovanni Reyna starts for BVB. They might just use him as the Sancho replacement when he leaves for ManUtd/Chelsea.
