Chelsea have been hit with the news that Kai Havertz has contracted a virus on international duty with Germany. The talented performer will miss tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Armenia.
There has been no mention of the Chelsea man testing positive for Covid-19. With that in mind, Kicker has claimed that the Blues man does merely have a relatively basic flu virus.
Havertz has enjoyed a solid start to 2021/22. He scored in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool, whilst he also claimed an assist in the UEFA Super Cup win over Villarreal.
The young attacker has scored five goals in 22 appearances for Germany. He was part of the team that lost to England at Euro 2020 and looks like a big star of the future.
Chelsea completed a bit of a coup when they won the race to sign Havertz last summer. The German looks like a great piece of business, even if Frank Lampard originally struggled to get a tune out of him.
The Blues are genuine title contenders this season and the hope will be that he is completely recovered for next weekend when the Premier League returns.
What have Chelsea fans said about Havertz?
Provided this is nothing more than flu, Chelsea supporters don’t seem too fussed that he’s set to miss out tonight. Some even think he should return to London to rest properly ahead of next weekend’s game against Aston Villa.
Havertz is a massive cog in Thomas Tuchel’s title-chasing machine. Although he has lots of quality throughout his squad, he won’t want to lose Havertz for any games in the league.
Supporters echo that sentiment and they want the £150,000-a-week player back in London with his feet up ahead of a big few weeks in the league and in Europe.
Here is what they had to say on Twitter after Kicker’s update on Havertz and his illness.
Just send him back home to London, let him get a weeks rest.
