Blues already have Jorginho replacement

There is a feeling that if the right offer came in for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, then the Blues could be tempted to cash in on the Italian, as Alan Smith writes.

Juventus, who are managed by ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, are reportedly interested in the midfielder’s services.

Jorginho has been an essential player and has really shone under Frank Lampard this season.

However, the Blues would be able to adapt if Jorginho left the club.

N’Golo Kante could return to the deeper midfield role if Jorginho leaves Stamford Bridge, having played the last couple of seasons in a more advanced position.

As well as Kante’s position change, Billy Gilmour has been introduced to the Chelsea first-team fold this season and has heavily impressed under Lampard.

Chelsea will not be put off Coutinho despite injury issues

Former Brazil star Rivaldo believes Chelsea are the favourites to sign Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho’s future at Barca is uncertain, with the ex-Liverpool midfielder being loaned out to Bayern Munich this season.

Reports suggest that the Spanish giants are willing to let the Brazilian leave the club in the summer and according to Rivaldo, the Blues are the favourites to sign him and will not be put off despite his injury troubles this season.

“Chelsea are favourites to sign Coutinho and I don’t believe they will be put off by his recent injury,” Rivaldo told Betfair.

“After all, next season is still very distant and he will have enough time to completely recover.

“On the other hand, if the transfer doesn’t go forward and he stays at Barcelona perhaps a salary reduction, based on the player’s decision, could earn plaudits from the club’s board and maybe let him show that he is eager to remain at the club and finally prove his worth.

“Yes, there are many clubs already reducing their players’ salaries because of the coronavirus crisis, but if the player takes a step forward in that themselves it would be seen as the attitude of someone interested in remaining at the club.

“Much could happen before next season and we can only wait for the next chapters of this story.”

Pjanic swap deal

The Blues could be on the brink of a major swap deal this summer which would see Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic arrive at Stamford Bridge with Jorginho heading in the opposite direction.

Bosnian midfielder Pjanic has been one Serie A’s top performing players over the last few years but the player has seen his form dip in Turin this season under ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

Should the rumoured deal take place, Jorghino would be reunited with Sarri once again, after the two also worked together at Napoli before the Italian manager signed him when he moved to west London.

As for Pjanic, the 30-year-old could be a useful acquisition for the Blues and Adam Newson looks at the different ways Frank Lampard can get the best out of the player.
