The very latest Chelsea transfer rumours as head coach Frank Lampard looks ahead to what could prove to be a very busy summer transfer window at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea would have been hoping to tighten their grip on the final Champions League spot this weekend when they travelled to Villa Park to face Aston Villa.
But, of course, those hopes have been snatched away from the Blues with news that all football in England’s top-four tiers of the men’s game and top-two tiers of the women’s game have been suspended until April 3 at the very earliest in a bid to slow down the spread of the cornavirus, which is currently sweeping its way across the globe.
After saying that it would be business as usual in the Premier League this weekend on Thursday evening, the Premier League had changed their mind less than 12 hours later, following the news that Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta had tested positive for COVID-19.
That was enough to force the Premier League’s hand, meaning all competitive action in England has now been temporarily shutdown.
Though this break will have come as a great frustration to everyone involved in the sport, it cannot be helped and the correct decision, most would argue, has been made.
But with on-field matters now having been cast aside for the time being, this period could offer clubs, including Chelsea, the opportunity to try and set out some plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Ziyech asks Chelsea to add another Ajax star
Midfielder Hakim Ziyech, who will join Chelsea from Dutch outfit Ajax this summer, is urging the club to raid the Eredivisie giants for another one of their star assets in the shape of goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to the Metro.
The Blues are highly likely to be on the search for a new goalkeeper this summer with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future at Stamford Bridge in serious doubt.
Onana, a Cameroon international, has expressed his desire to leave the Dutch giants this summer, with him reported to have chosen Chelsea as one of his preferred destinations.
And in an attempt to try and be alongside his current teammate at his new club this summer, Ziyech has asked Chelsea if they will make a move for the 23-year-old.
Gomes on Blues’ radar
Football 365 are reporting that Chelsea will look to sign young Manchester United attacking midfielder Angel Gomes on a free-transfer this summer.
The 19-year-old, who has risen through the youth ranks at Old Trafford, is out-of-contract at the end of this campaign, meaning any club could sign him for a fee settled by a tribunal.
And it is claimed that Chelsea are keen on landing the talented youngster, who has featured just once in the Premier League this season.
It is claimed that United have offered Gomes a fresh deal, which is believed to be worth £25,000-per-week, but his agent is said to have been left ‘unimpressed’.
Werner could opt for Chelsea move
RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner could choose a move to Chelsea this summer over a switch to Liverpool, according to a report by the Daily Star.
The 24-year-old, who has scored 28 goals for club and country this season, is a man in demand as the summer transfer window looms ever closer.
And even though it is Liverpool, who remain on the cusp of winning the Premier League title, that are the favorites to sign him, Chelsea could prove to be a more lucrative destination for the German, as he is far more likely to get regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge.
Come the summer, Werner is far more likely to have offers on the table from just Chelsea and Liverpool, respecively.
