Frank Lampard is keen to bin Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer and sign a new Chelsea number one, Football Insider understands.
The Spaniard, 25, has regained his place in goal since the restart and played all five of the Blues’ Premier League matches, four of which they have won.
But a Chelsea source has told Football Insider that Lampard has major doubts over Arrizabalaga’s ability to be number one at an elite club.
The Stamford Bridge boss is also not convinced by the character of the keeper who became the most expensive in the world in his position when signed from Athletic Bilbao for £71million two years ago.
Chelsea will listen to offers for Arrizabalaga going into the next transfer window, which is set to open later this month.
The west Londoners are already looking for a new number one, and have a number of feelers out.
Lampard is keen to recruit a top calibre keeper who can reach the same level as former number ones Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois.
The manager does not regard Willy Caballero as a viable candidate for the number one shirt.
However, the veteran did start Chelsea’s four matches before the lockdown in March as well as their 1-0 FA Cup win over Leicester City.
Arrizabalaga has been the first choice for most of the last two seasons and has played 92 times for the west Londoners.
