Kai Havertz is attracted by the prospect of playing alongside Timo Werner at Chelsea, according to reports.
Frank Lampard’s side are leading the race to sign Havertz this summer and are already in talks with the midfielder’s representatives.
Chelsea have reportedly indicated that they are willing to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s €100 million (£89.8m) asking price but are keen to pay in installments.
Havertz, meanwhile, is looking to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer and 21-year-old is open to joining Chelsea on the condition that they secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Havertz is also keen on the idea of joining Chelsea because he would link up with Werner, who has already completed his £47.5m move to Stamford Bridge.
Havertz has a good relationship with Werner following their time together with Germany’s national team and the pair could become an integral part of Chelsea’s bid to win the Premier League title next season.
Romano also claims that during talks with Havertz’s representatives, Chelsea were informed that the midfielder is also impressed by the club’s project and Frank Lampard’s plans.
Leverkusen, however, are expected to stand firm over their €100m (£89.8m) valuation. Speaking last week before the DFB Pokal final defeat to Bayern Munich, Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller claimed the 21-year-old is the best player in the the club’s history.
‘We’ve had many good players through the history of the club at Bayer Leverkusen, but Kai Havertz is the best of them all,’ Voller said.
