It was claimed on May 3 by Mundo Deportivo that César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, both of whom play for Chelsea, are both ‘seduced by the prospect’ of completing a transfer to Barcelona in the summer.
The two Blues players are featured on the front page of today’s issue of Sport, and the words “negotiating final” are emphasized there. According to the contents of the article, the La Liga club is now engaging in discussions with the intention of “closing” the signing of the two fullbacks.
Both of the players’ contracts are set to expire in 2023, and Chelsea is demanding compensation in exchange for allowing them to depart Stamford Bridge at the conclusion of this season. The club in west London are also reportedly “ready to discuss a player exchange deal without there being any money involved.”
Even if the Premier League club announced earlier this month that they are going to receive new owners, Marina Granovskaia’s status at Stamford Bridge has not been affected in any way by this development. She is in charge of handling the discussions with the Catalan club, according to the sport.
Although Granovskaia wants money to let both Azpilicueta and Alonso depart, Chelsea is looking into prospective exchange agreements with Barcelona. These deals would include the players swapping teams. Sergio Dest enters the picture at this point due to the fact that Thomas Tuchel’s club is reportedly “extremely interested” in signing him.
It is said that Tuchel intended to sign the player during the summer of 2017, but only on a loan basis from Ajax. The champions of the FIFA Club World Cup will be offered a fresh chance in the next window, providing that they can come to terms with the Americans. Staying put at the Camp Nou is now the top priority for Dest.
Mateu Alemany, the head of business operations at Barcelona, has previously been to London to meet with Granovskaia on a potential partnership between the two teams.
The camp led by Xavi continues to be optimistic that they will be able to reach agreements about Azpilicueta and Alonso. It is still unknown whether or not Dest, who has a price tag of €20 million, will be included in the transaction. In addition to him, Chelsea would be open to negotiations about Neto, the goalkeeper for Barcelona.
