Chelsea are set to offer Timo Werner his favoured No.11 shirt after the RB Leipzig striker officially completed his move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea confirmed that the Germany international will be arriving at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season after agreeing a £53 million deal with the Bundesliga club.
Werner, who has scored 32 goals in 43 appearances for RB Leipzig this season, has signed a five-year deal worth just over £170,000 a week.
The 24-year-old has not yet been assigned a squad number, but according to the Daily Telegraph, the striker has his eye on the No.11 jersey.
Werner has worn that number at Leipzig for the past four years and is said to be keep to keep it once he makes the move to Chelsea.
Pedro is Chelsea’s current No.11 but he is set to vacate it once he leaves Stamford Bridge to join Roma this summer.
The Spaniard has already agreed a pre-contract with the Serie A club and there are now doubts over whether he will play any part in the remainder of Chelsea’s campaign.
Chelsea will resume their Premier league season on Sunday when they play Aston Villa. Werner, meanwhile, will join once RB Leipzig’s Bundesliga campaign is completed.
‘I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club,’ Werner said on Thursday.
‘I’m now going to the amazing city of London. It was clear to me that I would take this next step abroad – that was always my dream.
‘So it’s not a decision taken against Leipzig, just one to complete my dream of playing in the Premier League – the strongest league in the world.
I now have the chance to play for one of Europe’s top clubs.
