Report: Chelsea scouts are big fans of the 21-year-old flying full-back

Sergio Gomez of Anderlecht has apparently impressed scouts from Chelsea.

The Blues are intrigued in the 21-year-old prospect, according to TEAMtalk, after scouts discovered him while looking for a new left-sided player.

According to the source, Thomas Tuchel’s team is unlikely to make a bid for him this month, but they are keeping a close eye on him. Manchester United has also been mentioned as a potential suitor for the Spanish full-back.

Gomez, a left-back or left wing-back, has had a fantastic start to his Anderlecht career after joining them from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

Chelsea must sign a backup LWB

He has 13 assists in 28 games this season, including a hat-trick of assists in his last appearance against Beerschot in the Belgian league.

Given his attacking contributions, his profile closely resembles those of Chelsea’s wing-backs, making him a fascinating target to keep an eye on.

Chelsea must sign a backup left wing-back before the January window closes, with Ben Chilwell out for the rest of the season.

In that wing-back position, Marcos Alonso is the sole senior option at the moment, though Kenedy has recently returned to Stamford Bridge after a loan spell.

If Tuchel wants to mix things up, Malang Sarr and academy product Lewis Hall are viable defensive alternatives, but he’ll almost certainly want to have an established side and formation by the end of the season.

It will be fascinating to see how Chelsea’s management handles their transfer business.
