Barcelona has suffered at right-back for a long time. Sergino Dest’s future transfer was projected to be a priority for the Catalan giants in 2020. Unfortunately for the American, a spate of injuries and his own inconsistency have caused his parent club to stop working with him.
According to El Nacional, Barça is willing to sell him for €20 million this summer. Chelsea are the frontrunners in the chase of him in winter window, having matched that fee. Joan Laporta appears to be on the verge of accepting the offer, but Dest isn’t quite ready to leave the club just yet.
Dest arrived in Barcelona in the summer of 2020. He showed a lot of promise because of his right-back talent and exhibited ability to also play as a left-back. The American international has scored a goal and contributed five assists in La Liga since joining the Catalans, three of which have come this season.
Barça is under the impression that he is no longer needed. The Blaugrana are looking for a particular type of player. Despite his impressive accomplishments this season, Dest has struggled for the majority of the time.
Although he is young and deserves more time, Barcelona believes that now is the best time to cash in on him. Chelsea is looking for someone to assist them with their injury problems, and Dest is the man for the job.
The American’s entourage believes he should be given the opportunity to play under Xavi first. Oscar Mingueza, Ronald Araujo, and Dani Alves are the only alternatives for the post for the Spanish manager. None of them are long-term solutions, as the American believes he is capable of.
Dest’s departure had presented him with the opportunity to play, and he would be free this summer. The €20 million raised from the sale of the American will be used to buy a striker in the summer, according to Barça.
