Report: Chelsea pushing to sign £97m gem who Thomas Tuchel called ‘incredible’ in 2019

Chelsea are reportedly ramping up their efforts to land Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele at the next available opportunity.

This is according to Mundo Deportivo, who claim the Blues are putting Barca under pressure to relinquish their attacker’s services.

Dembele is out of contract next summer and there haven’t yet been any indications he will extend his Spanish stay.

The Camp Nou hierarchy are understandably keen to renew the 24-year-old’s deal, as they aim to extract every ounce of quality left in the player.

Not to mention attempting to justify the £96.8m (BBC) they paid Borussia Dortmund to sign the France international back in 2017.

Once the golden boy of European football, Dembele has since lost his shine.

He has made 122 appearances, but he has also missed almost as many missed matches through injury during his time with Barca.

He has only just returned from a hamstring problem, having overcome a long-term knee issue.

Trusts Tuchel

It is such a shame to see such a talented individual thwarted by his own body.

Yet, beneath the bandages is a very gifted entertainer, who could potentially revive his career away from La Liga.

Dembele might look upon Chelsea as a favourable destination to produce such a turnaround due to one major factor.

His announcement to the world came as a teenager in Dortmund colours, under the guidance of the current Blues boss, Thomas Tuchel.

“Ousmane is an incredible player, he’s really talented. I could watch his amazing skills in every training session,” said Tuchel about his former student in 2019.

Bringing Dembele to the Bridge?

Few know Dembele better than Chelsea’s conquering coach, so a partnership could easily be instigated.

Of course, there are plenty of moving parts that need to be put into place if the Barca man is to set sail for Stamford Bridge.

Negotiating terms on a fresh contract will be the first big hurdle for the Spanish side.

Fighting off the Premier League’s lions should also be a cause for concern.

But how serious really is Chelsea’s apparent attention?

Although Tuchel might be fond of Dembele, his squad needs revamping in other areas of the field.
