Callum Hudson-Odoi has been linked with a shock transfer to Liverpool with his chances at Chelsea slim under Thomas Tuchel. Jurgen Klopp has plans to bolster his attack whereas at Stamford Bridge he is being played out of position.
Chelsea could demand one of three players in return for Hudson-Odoi from Liverpool, who have been tentatively linked with a move for the England international.
Hudson-Odoi exploded onto the scene not too long ago but has failed to put together any sort of consistent form at Stamford Bridge.
Now with Tuchel at the helm, the youngster has been forced to take on a role that he does not benefit from.
Instead of his preferred position on the left wing, the 20-year-old has been deployed as a right wing-back – almost the complete opposite to his usual role.
It has not been easy for Hudson-Odoi, who has struggled for minutes at the best of times.
With Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta ahead of him in the same position, the Wandsworth-born ace has had to settle for a spot largely on the bench.
But Liverpool could offer him a lifeline with CalcioMercato reporting that the Reds are interested in signing the wonderkid – yet Chelsea would have to be seriously wooed to part ways with the ace – particularly a Premier League rival.
So, who could the Blues demand in return? One player sticks out for Chelsea in the shape of Harvey Elliott.
The 18-year-old most recently dislocated his ankle but in the handful of appearances he has made, he has impressed – offloading a young talent for another would be the best bit of business Chelsea can do – should a deal be pulled off.
The second is Curtis Jones – following the same model – with the 20-year-old the latest production off the Liverpool conveyor belt with serious talent and is on the brink of a breakthrough campaign.
And the third is Kaide Gordon, who at 16 has plenty of time to develop but has already shown the world his talent on his Liverpool debut against Norwich.
Whether the Reds would accept any of these players going the other way is another matter with the club normally keen to keep hold of their young talents but if they are really desperate to sign Hudson-Odoi, they might just have to cave in.
