Report: Chelsea player hands in transfer request despite Tuchel calling him a ‘perfect example’

Emerson Palmieri has reportedly handed in his resignation letter to Chelsea amid interest from several Italian clubs.

This is according to Calciomercato, who claim the Blues have received a request from Emerson asking to leave.

The defender is fresh from winning the European Championships with Italy and helping Chelsea to a Champions League triumph.

Despite his recent trophy success, there is a growing feeling the 26-year-old won’t be present at Stamford Bridge this season.

He hardly kicked a football last term, with just two Premier League appearances to his name.

His main moment in the spotlight arrived in the European knockout tie with Atletico Madrid in March.

After coming off the bench at the Bridge in the final minute, Emerson finished off a fine counter attacker with a slick finish into the bottom corner.

Following the victory, Thomas Tuchel described the left-back in his press conference as a ‘perfect example’ for Chelsea’s team attitude.

Unfortunately, being a squad player only gets you so far in your career.

With many years still ahead of him, it’s understandable that Emerson would like a change of scenery from South West London.

A move back to Italy seems the most likely destination and he has no shortage of suitors waiting for him.

Inter Milan, Napoli, Roma, and Juventus have all been linked to the flying full-back.
