West Ham are eyeing up a move to sign Chelsea starlet Marc Guehi in the summer according to a report from The Athletic.
Central defence is an area where David Moyes may well need to look at in the summer.
We have an ageing back-line at the moment. There are some talented youngsters coming through the ranks including the likes of Aji Alese, Jamal Baptiste and Frederik Alves but none of them are proven at the very highest level.
The Athletic claims that the Blues have just triggered a 12-month contract extension option the 20-year-old’s deal. His contract at Stamford Bridge is now set to expire in the summer of 2023 according to The Athletic.
It is suggested that West Ham are one of the clubs keeping an eye on Guehi, however, ahead of a potential summer transfer swoop.
The young defender has spent this season on loan with Swansea City. And he has really impressed.
In 40 Championship appearances for the Swans, Guehi averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per game. He also won an average of 3.2 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).
The 20-year-old was part of a Swansea team who had the third best defensive record in the Championship.
His season on loan in the Championship would have done him the world of good.
And if he doesn’t think he has a future at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, a move to the London Stadium this summer might just be the ideal move for him.
Guehi would be a great signing for West Ham. He clearly has all of the attributes needed to succeed as a top class defender at the very highest level.
Whether Chelsea will be prepared to sell him this summer, however, is another matter entirely.
