Chelsea’s star-studded team has well and truly clicked over the last couple of weeks, and that was evident against Sheffield United in yesterday’s 4-1 win at Stamford Bridge.
Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, and Timo Werner were all on target in the victory, while Hakim Ziyech sparkled and claimed two assists.
Frank Lampard was heavily backed in the summer transfer window, and he is now starting to reap the rewards, the victory moving Chelsea to within two points of the top of the table.
The Blues enter the international break having won their previous four games in all competitions. More impressively, they are unbeaten in eight.
It shows the improvement the team has made via the transfer market, and per the latest reports, that is not set to end.
Here is a round-up of the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.
Darren Bent has questioned why reports ever surfaced of a potential loan deal for Antonio Rudiger between Chelsea and Spurs.
Rudiger has dropped out of the centre-back picture following Silva’s summer arrival and has not played a single Premier League minute this season.
However, Bent finds his exclusion strange and also questioned why Chelsea would have loaned him out to Spurs either.
“For whatever reason, he just can’t seem to be able to play for Chelsea,” he told Football Insider. “Maybe Frank doesn’t trust him or doesn’t want him. What does Rudiger do?
“I like him, I think he’s a good defender, but clearly something’s gone on down there for that to happen. The last thing I would want to if I was Frank Lampard, it’s all well and good not liking him or trusting him, that’s each to their own, but you don’t want to see him go to your rivals in Spurs and help them.
“Why would you want to make your rivals stronger? I’ve never understood that.”
Ziyech transfer dream revealed
Despite signing for Chelsea in February, officially completing his transfer in the summer window, Hakim Ziyech revealed that his dream move was not to Stamford Bridge.
An old Q and A with former teammate Justin Kluivert posed this precise question. Ziyech responded: “Well, I have two clubs. They are Arsenal and Barcelona. That is my ultimate dream.”
Ziyech, though, elsewhere revealed he could have left Ajax two years ago but is happy that he chose not to.
“Two years ago I was almost moving somewhere else, but it didn’t happen, he told Sky Sports. “And for myself, looking back now, I’m happy it didn’t. Because from that moment, I had an incredible journey with Ajax as well, and an amazing time. I improved a lot on the highest stage in Europe.
“And this summer was for me the time to move on, step up and I’m really happy that I still had the last two years at Ajax. I think the last two years improved me a lot, not only as a person but also as a footballer.”
Abramovich ready to spend big
After investing north of £200 million in the summer, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly ready to spend big again as he looks to build a team capable of winning the Premier League.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Abramovich wants to continue adding to the squad, despite already signing the likes of Werner, Kai Havertz, Chilwell, and others in the summer.
“Roman Abramovich wants to spend, he wants to win,” said Romano on The Blue View Podcast.
“If we will be back in a normal situation, I’m convinced yes Chelsea will spend big again, not like this summer but they will spend big again.”
