Chelsea transfer round-up: Striker eyes ‘dream’ move plus David Alaba latest

Frank Lampard has been linked with yet more additions in the January transfer window, after Chelsea spent more than £200million in the summer.

But outgoings could be just as significant for Chelsea when the market re-opens in the new year.

Lampard now has several surplus players and a big squad to keep happy after the summer spending splurge, and many are being linked with moves away after Christmas.

One of those players is Olivier Giroud, who has had to settle for a bit-part role for most of this season but stole the show with four goals against Sevilla on Wednesday.

Here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Conte plots double raid for Chelsea stars

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is plotting a double raid on his old club in January, according to reports from Italy.

The Inter Milan boss will reprise his interest in midfielder N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud in the new year, according to Italian publication Tuttosport .

Having played a bit-part role so far this season, Giroud showed his worth to Frank Lampard when he scored all four goals in Chelsea’s rout of Sevilla on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season – but he was in the same situation this time last year when he was heavily linked with a switch to Inter, before signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge last summer.

Kante, meanwhile, is contracted to Chelsea until 2023, and the west London club will demand a high price if they are to let the midfielder leave.

Chelsea would be ‘ultimate dream’ says striker

Iké Ugbo wants to follow in the footsteps of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount by forcing his way into Frank Lampard’s plans.

The 22-year-old striker has hit form during his loan move to Cercle Brugge in Belgium, having hit seven goals in 12 appearances.

Cercle have an option to sign him for €5million, but the London-born centre-forward is determined to carve a niche for himself at Chelsea – just as Abraham and Mount did after loan spells away from the club.

He told Sport/Foot : “I’m a true Londoner and, in my eyes, Chelsea will always be the biggest club in the capital.

“Chelsea would be the ultimate dream. As a kid, I admired Didier Drogba and John Terry.

“It’s up to me to prove that I’m ready for an eventual return.”

Chelsea keen on Alaba

Chelsea are continuing to weigh up a January swoop for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The versatile centre-back’s contract with the Bundesliga giants expires next summer, and he is yet to sign an extension.

German publication Bild has reported that the 28-year-old is a target for Lampard’s side and it’s believed he remains in their crosshairs.

Alaba will be a hot property if he does decide to end his long association with Bayern, having helped his side to nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League triumphs among a huge silverware haul.
