Chelsea dealt Christian Pulisic injury blow as Frank Lampard confirms fans’ worst fears

Christian Pulisic has suffered yet another setback in his short Chelsea career.

Frank Lampard confirmed the 22-year-old is once again injured after making just five appearances this season.

Pulisic arrived at Chelsea in January 2019 but has suffered from at least five different injuries in that time.

The United States star has however shown what he is capable of, scoring 11 goals and setting up a further 10 in all competitions last season.

Lampard is hopeful his latest injury, a hamstring problem, only keeps out the forward for a few weeks and not months.

“He’s played three games, we’ve tried to manage him in the week and it’s a small feeling in his hamstring so we’ll have to see how he is over the next 24 hours,” said Lampard.

“It’s a minor feeling that he had but definitely not right to go into 90 minutes of a game with that.

“Hopefully it’s short term, we’re talking weeks.”

He added: “He’s frustrated because he’s worked so hard to get fit.”

Chelsea are back in action against Rennes in the Champions League on Wednesday, after beating Burnley 3-0 on Saturday.

But it looks likely that Pulisic won’t return until after the international break. In which case, Chelsea’s game against Newcastle on November 21 looks the most likely for Pulisic’s return.
